Are we adding to the farm… again?

It’s been in my mind for some time now that we could possibly be doing more with our sheep than just selling registered breeding stock or processed cuts at the Hardin County Farmers’ Market.    Considering I’ve milked every one of our mamas at some point in time or another, I started looking into avenues for using sheep milk.    The State of KY has highly regulated milk laws (this is a very good thing), and without having an actual dairy – that door quickly closed for us.

However, one potential option would be utilizing our sheep milk to make soap!   I’m a crafter, and a baker (meaning: I’m really good at following directions), and honestly, doesn’t making soap just sound… fun?

After hearing rumors for a few years, I learned this past week that a long-time vendor at our market, who just happens to sell goat milk soap was calling it quits and moving.   I got brave enough to send a quick email this morning, to ask if by any chance she would be selling her soaping equipment?

The answer was yes.   And not only was she selling the equipment – she also planned to sell her GOATS!!!!
