Copycat Speedway Breakfast Pizza Recipe

You might not think that “gas station breakfast pizza” would be something worth re-creating, but this unlikely pairing of sausage and gravy on a pizza crust is wonderful. Sprinkle a little (or a LOT) of crushed red pepper on your slice for a little ZING! and you will be ready to start your day.

We are partners with Cedar Valley Farms in Hodgenville, KY – and offer their delicious pastured pork for sale each week at the Hardin County Farmers’ Market. When Cedar Valley unexpectedly got some “hot” sausage back from their processor along with their standard offerings of “mild” and “medium” – we jumped on the chance to try it out. I knew exactly what I wanted to make: homemade breakfast pizza!

We absolutely love the breakfast pizza from the Speedway gas station chain; however, now that it’s not a quick stop on the way to the office anymore, it has to be a dedicated trip to town to pick it up.     After a few tries at recreating their recipe, I finally got it.   This quick and easy breakfast dish is super simple to prepare – as well as absolutely delicious!

Feel free to customize to your liking – you could always add vegetables or extra seasonings to make it uniquely yours.

Instructions

  • Follow the directions shown on the pizza dough package (e.g. set out at room temperature) Preheat the oven to the temperature shown on the package.
  • In a large skillet, brown the sausage - breaking it up into very small pieces. Drain the grease from the pan, and set the sausage aside on a large paper-towel lined plate to continue draining.
  • Line the sheet pan with aluminum foil. Spray with non stick cooking spray of choice (I like using avocado oil)
  • Shape the pizza dough as thin or thick as you like! Prebake in the oven approx. 5 minutes.
  • Carefully squeeze out the 2 packs of sausage gravy on to the crust, and spread evenly. Top with cooked sausage, and then sprinkle the cheese on top.
  • Bake for the time shown on your pizza dough package.
  • Cut, serve, and ENJOY!
