S&B Wool Pellets

Description

These wool pellets are a special blend of the alpaca and sheep fibers directly from our farm!     As an eco-friendly cross between soil amendment and mulch, these little pellets hold up to 20 times their weight in water, and provide a delightful slow-release nitrogen boost to your plants.

The fiber we use in these pellets is waste fiber, and especially with our alpaca waste fiber we are creating a sustainable product that allows us to add organic material back into the ground.   This ultimately will help to improve soil health.

The pellets contain only wool (note:  the waste wool isn’t washed first, so it also contains vegetable matter and poo leftover by our animals), and there are no added chemicals!

Just like we send our alpaca blanket fiber to a mill for processing into yarn, we sent our waste fiber to a specialty mill for the pelletizing process.

Making the pellets is a two step process: (1) shred the fiber and (2) add to the pelletizer machine. Using the same concept that a hot compost pile kills all the seeds and pathogens when the temperature is between 135° and 155° Fahrenheit, the pelletizer heats to minimum of 140° for safe handling and storage.

Bonus:  If you sprinkle the pellets on top of the soil, they are also a natural slug and snail deterrent!

A very effective way to use these pellets is by adding a small handful when planting seeds or transplants to your garden.
